The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital provides personalized care for every patient in the hospital who requires ICU services.

We offer a nurse-to-patient ratio of 2 patients to one nurse, and encourage family participation in the plan of care and treatment of patients.

We focus on patients who:

  • Require ventilation support
  • Require cardiac monitoring
  • Require hemodynamic monitoring (observing how the cardiovascular system responds to illness, injury, and therapeutic intervention)
  • Are critically ill pediatric patients
  • Have undergone cardiac procedures such as pacemaker implantation and cardiac ultrasound procedures (echocardiography)

Our ICU staff is highly trained, compassionate staff consisting of Registered Nurses with advanced training in Critical Care and Licensed Vocational Nurses or Certified Nursing Assistants who help the Registered Nurse in caring for our patients.

We are open to visitors at all times except 7am to 8am and 7pm to 8pm for shift changes.

We allow two visitors at the bedside at a time. Limiting visitors allows the patient to get better rest which promotes healing.  We ask that visitors be 12 years or older to visit; however, special arrangements may be made depending on the circumstances.  Please ask your nurse if there is a special reason to allow a younger child at the bedside.  Decisions will be made by the nurse depending on the situation.

With our large, comfortable waiting area, larger groups can watch TV, read, or request access to our Guest Wireless Internet while they wait to switch out with the visitors at the bedside.

Welcoming your baby at RRH is a family affair…

We encourage a family-centered maternity atmosphere by allowing the mother to directly care for and bond with her baby by permitting the newborn to “room-in”. Baby’s father or your support person is welcomed and encouraged to stay with you throughout your labor and delivery, if so desired. Loved ones who want to be close by, but not in the room, can relax comfortably in our waiting room.

Labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum rooms

Our labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum rooms are decorated in a “home-like” setting which allows the patient to deliver and bond with the baby in a relaxed atmosphere. Rooms are designed to pamper you with comfort and convenience. The home-like bedroom settings contain modern labor beds, wooden cabinets, a TV/VCR, and a soft chair for your support person. This home setting encourages bonding of mother and child since the baby stays in the same room with its mom from birth to discharge from the hospital. A nurse is assigned to care for both of them.

Ridgecrest Regional Hospital is a leader in medical imaging in the Southern Sierra Region by introducing innovative and important new technology in the area.

Our facility hosts the GE Signa HDxT 1.5T MRI and the GE Optima 660 CT system. The new GE Optima 660 CT system provides high resolution images and faster exam time, that ultimately lead to shorter breath holds and more comfort for our patients. Most importantly however, the new system offers ASIR low dose technology that allow us to optimize (or lower) radiation dose level for all exams, some in excess of 60%.

The medical imaging team focuses on individual health care needs and our board certified radiologist, licensed technologists, registered nurses and support staff are dedicated to making you feel comfortable and confident through your radiology examination. Our radiology team has come to RRH with training and experience from institutions such as Baylor University Medical Center, Loma Linda, UC Davis, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Mayo Clinic, KMC Bakersfield, and Staten Island University Medical Center.

We offer the following imaging services:

  • X-Rays
  • High definition Ultrasound
  • CT Scans
  • Advanced MRI / MRA
  • Mammogram
  • Orthopedics & Sports imaging
  • Pediatric imaging
  • Vascular imaging

Senior Services

417 Drummond Ave., Ridgecrest CA 93555
Mon to Fri: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Senior Services of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital is dedicated to ensuring maximum independence and dignity in a home environment to seniors (60+) of the Indian Wells Valley and the Rand District with Kern County. Partially funded through the Kern County Department of Aging this program is a result of the Older Americans Act of 1965.

There are three components to Senior Services:

  1. Information and Assistance: This program provides free assistance to seniors with identifying programs and services to ensure their needs are met. Some of these services include:
    • Transportation referrals
    • Meals on Wheels referrals
    • Information regarding caregiver support groups
    • Alzheimer’s Disease information, including applications for respite grants.
    • Assistance completing basic forms.
  2. Case Management: Provides the above services but for an individual who may need extra assistance. These folks require short-term assistance, either on a weekly or monthly basis.
  3. Homemakers Program: Provides non-medical housekeeping services in the home. Examples are light housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, grocery shopping and socialization. Most people receive services every other week for two hours.

All of these programs are designed to give preference to individuals who fall at or below the poverty level, however we do are best to provide services to everyone. While there is no fee associated with this services, the Older Americans Act does allow us to ask for monthly contributions which go directly back into the program so that services can continue to be provided.

Why are older adults more prone to heat stress?

  • Older adults do not adjust as well as young people to sudden changes in temperature.
  • They are more likely to have a chronic medical condition that changes normal body responses to heat.
  • They are more likely to take prescription medicines that affect the body’s ability to control its temperature or sweat.

Stay cool, stay hydrated

  • Stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as possible. If your home doesn’t have air conditioning, contact your local health department or locate an air-conditioned shelter in your area.
  • Do not rely on a fan as your main cooling source when it’s really hot outside.
  • Drink more water than usual and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.
    • If your doctor limits the amount of fluids you drink or has you on water pills, ask them how much you should drink during hot weather.
  • Don’t use the stove or oven to cook—it will make you and your house hotter.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Take cool showers or baths to cool down.
  • Do not engage in very strenuous activities and get plenty of rest.
  • Check on a friend or neighbor and have someone do the same for you.
  • Follow additional tips( on how to prevent heat-related illness

Transitional Care & Rehab (Geriatric)

1081 N. China Lake Blvd., Ridgecrest CA 93555
  Campus Map
Open 24/7

The Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Unit (TCRU) is a skilled nursing facility within the hospital that focuses on rehabilitating patients who are still recovering from an illness or injury and are not ready to go home yet.

Stays in our TCRU are normally shorter (about 2 – 4 weeks) than at a nursing home. It is a transitional facility within the hospital that allows patients to go from the acute setting of the hospital, to the TCRU and thus better prepared to return home. For example, you may have surgery at the hospital and stay several days in the acute setting but still not be strong enough to go home. You could transfer over to the TCRU and continue to get the support and rehab you need while you continue to heal and improve. Staff and your physician in concert with the patient will determine when you are healthy enough to be discharged home.

The TCRU provides patients with the rehabilitation and training (which may include any caregiver that may be involved) they need to better prepare them to go home and to be healthy and strong enough to stay home.

We also accept transfers from other hospitals out of town. This allows patients to return to the community and to their loved ones while they continue to heal and recover.

The TCRU offers the following services:

  • 24 hour RNs on duty
  • IV services for hydration
  • IV antibiotic administration as needed
  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
  • Partial parenteral nutrition (PPN)
  • Advanced pain control systems (PCA pumps)
  • In-house pharmacy services
  • In-house laboratory and x-ray services
  • In-house hospice care
  • In-house therapy services: Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, advanced wound care by certified wound care staff (both RN & PT)
  • In-house dietitian
  • Available in-house consultation: infection control, pharmacy consulting medical social work
