Did you know that 74% of car seats inspected by Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) in 2023 were not used correctly? As parents, caregivers, or guardians, ensuring your little ones are safely buckled in is a priority. A properly installed car seat can mean the difference between life and death in the event of an accident.
Car Seat Safety Tips:
Properly installing a car seat can be tricky, but following these key steps can help ensure your child's safety:
Best Seat in the Car: Children under 13 should always ride in the back seat. Check your car's manual for proper car seat placement.
Seat Belt or LATCH: Secure the car seat with either the seat belt or LATCH, not both. Use a top tether for all forward-facing seats.
The Inch Test: Ensure a snug fit—your car seat shouldn’t move more than an inch when tested at the belt path.
LATCH Weight Limits: Switch to using the seat belt when your child exceeds the car seat's LATCH weight limit.
